Google’s self-driving car

It is not new that Google is working on machine vision products, but this one in particular is especially interesting. It is a complex software system supported by a powerful hardware that includes a laser radar (LIDAR ). The software itself is astonishing, as you can see in the video below. It is able to recognize a lot of the situations that may occur on the road&streets. For example, it can detect when a cyclist comes up behind if, for example, it wants to turn right.

While it is true that the number of situations that can occur on the road is too high, Google has managed to set many of them. In fact the car has covered 700,000 miles completely autonomously without any accident. Very soon we will enjoy this technology in our cars, but meanwhile we’ll have to drive ourselves.
This is just an example of what machine vision can do to improve our lives, but there are many other possibilities.
