In 2018 we started a project in collaboration with the University of Burgos and other European partners to help boys and girls with dyslexia in their learning through Virtual and Augmented Reality.
The project is called FORDYS-VAR (Fostering Inclusive Learning for Children with Dyslexia in Europe by Providing Easy-to-Use Virtual and Augmented Reality Tools and Guidelines), and it will receive a total of € 373,544 from the Erasmus + program.
The general objective of the FORDYS-VAR project is to contribute to the educational inclusion of children with dyslexia using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), thus improving access, participation and the learning experience of schoolchildren who suffer from this problem. Dyslexia is one of the developmental disorders that has been most debated and researched, however, intervention through technology is relatively recent. Introducing these technologies into the assessment and intervention process can become a key element in improving the effectiveness of learning and enhancing your learning experience.
The project provides an innovative and technological approach to the treatment of dyslexia in schoolchildren. Many of the traditional interventions (based on paper and pencil) are often monotonous and very demanding, with which in many cases there are difficulties in adherence to treatment. For this reason, it is crucial to develop new intervention approaches that can help patients in a more fun way and with greater commitment on their part. In this case, AR and VR can fill this gap, since various studies propose that the technologies proposed here are the only ones that include immersion, presence, interaction, transduction and conceptual change. In this way, the activities that are carried out will approximate real life contexts and will also take place in a dynamic, multi-sensory, controlled and safe environment.
This project is one of the different systems that ARSOFT is developing on a non-profit basis, with the aim of introducing Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies in different areas and improving people’s lives in a way. There is still much to be done!
